Seattle Early Dance presents dance and music from the courts of the "Old World", and South America's "New World". The Renaissance dances are reconstructed from dance treatises published in Italy during the latter part of the sixteenth century. The Baroque dances are reconstructed from notations published in France and England during the early eighteenth century. The "New World" dances are based on the eighteenth century manuscript of Martinez Campaynon, from Peru, and include the Cachua danced with handkerchiefs, and the Járcaras played with castanets. Old World/New World features exquisite costumes and live music by by Jean-Baptiste Lully, André Campra, and Marin Marais, performed on period instruments.
